A blog by an opinionated mother of two, which might lie idle for a while sometimes. The blog, that is.

Great post. Got here via the PWRG. I'm thoroughly enjoying the book. I had expected to struggle with it, but I find it immensely readable despite the lack of plot.

Helen, we're onto the next chapters I b'leve, so fire away on the Nance.

And I too find character and dialogue quite enough. If I feel the urge for a plot, I read a detective story ; )

Was one of a number of the curmudgeonly old queer's novels I've read. The only one I managed to stick with to the last page, and is it heresy or non PC to admit to enjoying it?

Enjoying a PW novel when his "something I prepared and published earlier" are generally served up like Hypol, broccoli, castor or fish oil - something that is good for you.

Might I get wanky and suggest that following in the footsteps of "The Vivisector" were Tim Watson's "Cloudstreet" and Wayne Carey's "The Tax Collector".

Forgive me for the cheapshot at the big sticks from fifty metres out on an impossible angle, but after all it is the footy finals season. However my point and comparison stands.

I just haven't been able to goad myself into reading it. Other books keep getting in the way! I've currently got on the go a book by Perelman, Creme de la Phlegm (still), a Raymond Chandler book, and two more Father Brown books ... and, somewhere amongst that lot is 'The Vivisector'.

It just looks so damned big! I will get around to reading it ... soon ...
