It’s kind of depressing that the only person still in parliament from the Whitlam era – Ruddock – is a Liberal – not a progressive hero from Gough’s side.

About his sudden reversion – i guess in opposition he can pretend the Howard years never happened and he can just go back to the MP he was in the 1980s – when he crossed the floor against Howard’s anti-Asian views – then again its easier to do that sort of thing in opposition – the impotent can be pure as Gough said.

I haven’t yet seen stories of Nelson or other opposition frontbenchers visiting the flood-disaster areas of Queensland, have you? Is this possibly because they lost badly in Queensland, and the Liberal party there is in such disarray? Counter-intuitive, don’t you think? Then again, with this lot, it’s just what you’d expect.
